Commercial Account Executive

I’m Tyler McConnell, Commercial Account Executive on the Transportation team at Axis. I focus on building strong relationships with transportation fleet clients, primarily private fleets hauling their own goods, as well as common carriers and specialized operations. I spend much of my time visiting clients and prospects to understand their businesses, assess their risk profiles, and find ways to help them operate more safely, efficiently, and profitably.

I started my career in insurance as an intern at The Magnes Group (now Axis), and after graduating from McMaster University’s DeGroote School of Business, I gained experience in equipment financing at Hitachi Capital, focusing on leases and loans for trucking clients. In 2020, I returned to The Magnes Group to deepen my focus on insurance and risk. Since then, I’ve earned my CAIB designation and am working toward my CIP, building the knowledge and expertise required to support transportation clients across southern Ontario.

My area of focus is the transportation sector, supporting well‑managed fleets that recognize safety and risk management as priorities. Helping businesses balance premiums, deductible structures, and self‑insured losses is central to my role. I work to be more than an insurance broker; I want my clients to see me as a trusted risk consultant. From recommending dash cams and advanced telematics to connecting businesses with fleet risk experts, I help them understand that proactive risk management delivers long‑term benefits and lower total cost of risk.

This approach reflects the Axis philosophy: “Where risks shape success”. By aligning insurance with operational priorities, I help businesses turn risk into a competitive advantage.

Outside of work, I’m an avid sports fan, hockey, baseball, football, and golf top the list, and an aspiring (though still developing) poker and chess player. I also have a passion for automatic and mechanical watches. In the community, I raise funds for Movember every year, with over $15,000 raised to date, and I’m a regular blood donor, supporting a cause I deeply value.
