The Treasures Insurance Story: Legacy, Leadership, and a New Chapter at Axis Insurance | Axis Insurance

A Brokerage Built on History and Relationships

Treasures Insurance has served communities throughout Alberta since 1945. For Scott Treasure, that history was inseparable from the present, a responsibility he carried forward with every decision he made as a leader. He describes Treasures as a business built to be dependable through decades of change. Its reputation was shaped by consistency, professionalism, long‑standing relationships, and daily decisions made with care.

When Scott stepped into leadership, his focus was on stewardship. He placed priority on protecting Treasures’ culture, client relationships, and reputation while guiding the business forward. In his view, the brokerage has always been shaped by continuity, disciplined decision making, and respect for the people who built it and the clients it serves.

Three Generations Shaping One Company

Scott sees Treasures as a company shaped by each generation in distinct but connected ways. He credits his grandfather with laying the entrepreneurial foundation. He started the business from scratch, combining real estate and insurance at a time when that path required real courage and resilience. That early mindset established the independence and problem‑solving approach that would define Treasures for decades.

When Scott’s father assumed leadership, the focus shifted to intentional growth. Under his direction, the brokerage expanded its physical presence into more communities across Alberta, while maintaining discipline around how that growth occurred.

When it became Scott’s turn to lead, he focused on building on what already worked. His leadership blended entrepreneurial thinking with long‑term accountability, always grounded in an understanding of the business’s history.

A Deep Commitment To ClientFirst Service

At the core of Treasures Insurance is a strong belief in the broker model. For Scott, this belief represents responsibility in action. To him, being a broker means representing clients with independence and advocacy. That independence allows brokers to offer real choice and to support clients through the claims process, often during the most challenging moments of their lives.

Client‑first service extends well beyond placing coverage. At Treasures, it includes helping people recover from unexpected events, navigating complex situations, and ensuring fairness throughout the process. This approach has shaped lasting trust with clients and credibility across the industry.

Collaboration Within The Industry

One of the most influential lessons Scott learned from his father was how to think about competition. Coming from a more adversarial industry background, Scott recalls needing to recalibrate his perspective. In brokerages, collaboration often matters more than competition, particularly in a highly regulated environment where shared advocacy benefits clients and the industry as a whole.

That belief guided Scott’s deep involvement beyond his own brokerage and into industry leadership. Over the course of his career, he served as President of both the Insurance Brokers Association of Alberta (IBAA) and the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC). These roles reflect a meaningful commitment that extended well beyond his day‑to‑day responsibilities, requiring significant time, energy, and long‑term dedication to advancing the broker channel. Through this work, Scott focused on advocating for brokers, strengthening professional standards, and supporting positive change across the Canadian insurance industry.

Building a Team That Endures

When asked what he is most proud of, Scott points first to the people and culture at Treasures Insurance. Many employees spent decades with the brokerage, creating continuity that extended well beyond individual roles. That long tenure preserved institutional knowledge and reinforced a workplace grounded in respect, trust, and long‑term commitment, values that clients experienced directly.

Despite its size, Treasures regularly took on leadership roles beyond its own walls. Scott describes the brokerage as one that consistently punched above its weight. The formation of Excel Insurance Group stands out as a clear example. Originally created to solve market access challenges, the group allowed Treasures and other brokers to collaborate more effectively and create greater leverage for clients. This strategic, collaborative approach reflected how Treasures operated at every level, with a focus on expertise, partnership, and long‑term value.

A Natural Alignment with Axis Insurance

Scott describes the alignment with Axis Insurance as a natural progression of Treasures’ values.  Both organizations share a commitment to client experience, thoughtful decision making, and doing business with integrity. For Scott, that shared philosophy was the most important factor. As the industry continues to evolve, he sees this alignment as a way to preserve continuity, ensuring that the trust Treasures built over decades remains firmly in place.

At Treasures, the guiding principle has always been clear. Insurance is about people. Advocacy, integrity, and genuine care are what sustain relationships over time, regardless of how the industry changes. As Treasures Insurance enters its next chapter with Axis Insurance, that legacy continues. The values that shaped the brokerage for more than 80 years remain firmly rooted, guiding the path forward.
