As summer drew to a close, we at Axis Insurance took a moment to reflect on the incredible team spirit our slow pitch softball team embraced over the past few months. This annual tradition has once again become a shining beacon of our company culture, fostering camaraderie and teamwork among colleagues from all departments.

A Home Run for Employee Engagement

Our slow pitch softball league is more than just a game—it’s a powerful tool for building connections and boosting morale across the organization. Each week, as we stepped up to the plate, we strengthened the bonds that make Axis such a remarkable place to work. Since its inception in 2014, the league has been a summer staple, bringing together employees for over a decade of fun, healthy competition, and team building.

“Spending time in play and enjoying the sunshine with my colleagues outside of work helps me appreciate them even more and gives me an additional thing to look forward to during the summer months,” shares Roshana, our Talent Acquisition Manager. Her sentiment echoes throughout the company, highlighting how the league contributes to employee engagement and overall satisfaction.

Leadership on the Field

Every summer, our slow pitch softball league brings together employees from all levels, fostering a spirit of unity and collaboration. It’s a time when everyone—from entry-level team members to top executives—joins in on the fun. Our leadership team, including CEO Alex Meier, enthusiastically participates, making it a truly inclusive experience that blurs hierarchies and promotes a sense of equality.

Jamie, our Account Executive and the unofficial captain of the team, reflects on the experience: “As someone who works from home, I appreciate the chance to see colleagues in person and have some fun together. We have players from different departments at different skill levels competing and encouraging each other, which is amazing. Summer evenings playing softball at the park with your colleagues—it’s just a great time.”

Building Relationships, One Inning at a Time

The benefits of our softball league extend far beyond the diamond. Many employees report that the casual atmosphere of game nights helps to break down barriers and fosters open communication. It provides an informal setting where colleagues can interact outside the confines of the office, leading to stronger working relationships and enhanced collaboration during the workday.

While we might not always hit home runs, our focus is on team building and strengthening relationships. To make it even more special, spouses are also invited to play, turning our games into family-friendly events that enhance the sense of community at Axis Insurance. It’s not just about the game; it’s about coming together as a family.

“It’s fantastic to engage in an activity with co-workers you don’t see on a day-to-day basis,” says Carolyn Horne, our Accounting & Payroll Administrator. “It’s a wonderful way to meet new colleagues, and whether you play the sport or not, having people come out to watch and support the team makes it even more special.”

A Winning Streak of Fun

While we keep score, the real victory is in the memories we create and the relationships we build. From post-game celebrations to friendly rivalries between departments, the league becomes a highlight of our company calendar. It offers a respite from the daily grind and reminds us all of the importance of work-life balance.

“During the summer months, slow-pitch is something I look forward to!” exclaims Brittney Taylor, our Senior Executive Assistant. “Playing a sport with your colleagues, getting outside in the beautiful weather, and sharing laughs creates a different bond that I am forever grateful to be a part of.”

Looking Ahead to Next Season

As we pack away our gloves and bats, we can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation for next year’s season. The league not only provides a platform for fun and fitness but also reinforces the core values that Axis stands for—teamwork, inclusivity, and community engagement.

The slow pitch softball league has become more than an annual event; it is a cherished tradition that embodies the spirit of Axis. It reminds us that while we strive for excellence in our professional roles, it’s equally important to connect on a personal level. These connections not only make our work environment more enjoyable but also translate into better teamwork and collaboration in our daily tasks.

Join the Fun Next Summer

We encourage all team members, whether seasoned players or complete novices, to join us next summer. It’s an opportunity to step outside your comfort zone, meet colleagues from different departments, and maybe even discover a new passion for the game!
