Team Leader, Claims

I’m Lorraine Palmer, Team Leader for the Claims department at Axis. I manage a team of three, focusing on mentoring, motivating, and supporting them to build on their strengths and work through challenges. Through regular coaching sessions, I listen to their questions and concerns, and help guide their growth and development. Making myself available to my team every day is a priority and how I help create a strong, confident group that delivers for our clients.

I’ve worked in the insurance industry for over 26 years, starting in 1999 with claims and bonds, then gaining experience as a Commercial Account Manager for ten years across various sectors. After that, I spent a decade managing both commercial and personal claims before moving into my role as Team Leader. My background has given me deep expertise in auto, property and casualty, professional liability, and construction claims. I hold licenses in every Canadian province except Quebec.

Throughout my career, I’ve shared knowledge and experience with colleagues, presenting to commercial lines teams about claim frequency, trends, and changes that shape the industry. Helping educate others strengthens both our team and the service we provide.

At Axis, we believe that knowing how risk operates is the key to shaping success. Helping clients understand how their policies respond to losses and guiding them through challenging claim scenarios is central to what I do. By being empathic, transparent, and thorough, I help ensure a better claim experience, making it more likely that clients remain loyal and confident in the long run.

Outside of work, I give back to my community by supporting Project Share food drives and donations. In my personal time, I stay active with sports, watch movies ranging from martial arts to rom‑coms, and spend quality moments attending K‑Pop concerts with my daughter. I also enjoy reading mystery and romance novels and exploring new and unique recipes in the kitchen.
