Senior Vice President, Energy, Transportation, & Agribusiness

I’m Ben Preston, Senior Vice President of Energy, Transportation, & Agribusiness at Axis Insurance, bringing over 20 years of industry experience.

I began my career at a boutique firm specializing in oil and gas, where I moved quickly from drafting letters to managing some of the firm’s largest and most complex accounts. This early experience gave me a solid foundation in understanding client needs and delivering tailored solutions.

At Marsh, I started in the Business Development team and later led the SME team in the Calgary office for two years. I then served as Senior Vice President and Senior Relationship Officer for some of the largest multinational onshore contractors and producers in the oil and gas sector, managing a $4 million global revenue portfolio. My work included overseeing offshore captive insurance companies, advising on coverage, calculating premiums, and structuring collateral. I also managed project teams globally to uphold a high standard of service delivery, ensuring our clients received exceptional support across borders.

At Axis, I am committed to driving regional development across Alberta and the prairies, focusing on the energy, transportation, and agribusiness sectors. My goal is to help clients navigate complex risks with confidence and clarity, always prioritizing excellence in customer experience.

Outside of work, I have a passion for international travel—a love shaped by my studies in Japan while earning a bachelor’s degree in International Business from the University of Calgary. I speak three languages and was once ranked among the top 10 long-track speedskaters in Canada. I also hold several insurance designations—CPIB, CAIB, and CRM—that reflect my dedication to continuous learning and excellence in this industry.
