Account Executive, General Practice

I’m Ian McHale, a Commercial Account Executive, General Practice at Axis Insurance. I help businesses navigate risk with practical advice, tailored insurance solutions, and a hands-on approach that supports their goals at every stage of growth. 

My focus includes food and beverage businesses, hospitality and manufacturing operations, and specialized SCUBA-related risks, including dive shops, instructors, and equipment manufacturers. I work closely with clients to understand their operations, identify exposures, and secure coverage that aligns with their unique needs. 

Before entering the insurance industry, I spent more than a decade as a chef and later worked in sales for a meat wholesaler. That experience gave me firsthand insight into the challenges many business owners face and helps me bring a practical, real-world perspective to risk management discussions today. I hold a Level 2 Insurance Broker licence in British Columbia, have completed CAIB 1, 2, and 3, and am licensed in Alberta and Ontario. 

My approach is centered on identifying the root cause of insurance and risk challenges rather than simply addressing the immediate issue. By working collaboratively and thinking creatively, I help clients uncover solutions that strengthen their businesses and support long-term success. 

Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, skiing, attending concerts, collecting vinyl records, and cooking.
