Assistant Vice President, Agribusiness

I’m Russ Stewart, Assistant Vice President of Agribusiness at Axis Insurance. Since entering the insurance industry in 2004, I have built experience across commercial insurance, life insurance, and group benefits, with a strong focus on agriculture, manufacturing, and complex commercial risks. Throughout my career, I have helped clients navigate challenging exposures and develop insurance solutions that support their long-term business objectives.

In 2016, I moved into a leadership role specializing in hard-to-place risks, agriculture, life sciences, international placements, and construction-related exposures. Today, my focus at Axis is helping businesses understand and manage risk as part of a broader strategy for growth and success. I work closely with clients to gain a deep understanding of their operations, challenges, and objectives, ensuring their insurance programs align with their overall risk management approach. While my work has traditionally been concentrated in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan, I am excited to support the expansion of our agriculture practice on a national scale.

Mentoring both new and experienced brokers has also been an important part of my career. I am passionate about helping the next generation of insurance professionals develop their skills and confidence.

Outside of work, I remain actively involved in our family farm and support youth sports in my community. I have served as Past President of Claresholm Minor Hockey and as a Board Member of the Foothills Bisons Elite Hockey Program, experiences that have strengthened my commitment to leadership, teamwork, and community involvement.
