Chief Financial Officer

I’m Mary Falconer, Chief Financial Officer at Axis Insurance. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, I oversee our finance, accounting, and systems functions, ensuring our business operates with strong financial management and robust operational controls. My focus is on delivering strategic guidance and strengthening financial systems to support growth, efficiency, and sustainable success.

With over 35 years of experience working as a senior finance executive, I have worked internationally across five jurisdictions and regulatory environments. My career has spanned traditional finance and treasury, as well as governance, HR, IT, M&A, and risk management. Prior to joining Axis, I served as Chief Accountant at Canadian Western Bank, held CFO roles within the Canadian credit union system and with a Swiss bank, and spent thirteen years in public practice with EY and PwC. I am a CPA and hold the Institute of Corporate Directors Designation (ICD.D). I earned my Bachelor of Commerce with distinction from the University of Alberta and was honoured with the British Columbia CFO of the Year award in 2018.

Beyond my executive responsibilities, I currently serve as a corporate board director for an employee-owned Western Canadian consulting and engineering company. Previously, I served as a corporate board director and audit committee chair for Central 1 Credit Union, as well as secretary and treasurer for a non-profit foundation board. I am also passionate about advancing female leadership in business, and over the years I have supported both formal and informal mentoring programs and have been privileged to be a keynote speaker at professional conferences focused on diversity and female leadership.

I am driven by a belief that disciplined financial and risk management create the foundation for organizational success. My work helps to strengthen our ability as a company to embrace opportunities with confidence and transform challenges into long-term growth. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, gardening, and exploring the beautiful Canadian outdoors.
