Kevan Thompson

National Senior Vice President of the Construction, Contractors & Real Estate

I’m Kevan Thompson, National Senior Vice President of the Construction, Contractors & Real Estate practice group at Axis Insurance. With more than two decades of experience, my background spans project-specific insurance programs, contract review and modeling, contract surety, and subcontractor default insurance (SDI). As practice group leader, I oversee our national strategy to provide clients with risk management, insurance, and performance security solutions that position them for long-term success.

I began my career at the largest global construction brokerage, spending a decade managing major accounts. I then joined one of Canada’s premier brokerage firms, where I led the construction and surety division, before moving to dual leadership roles at a large global insurance brokerage, where I managed strategic construction accounts and Canada’s largest roofing programs as a Lloyd’s of London coverholder.

I’ve had the privilege of contributing to the industry in leadership and advisory roles. I served as Chair of the Surety Association of Canada (SAC) and currently sit on the Board of Directors for the Grand Valley Construction Association (GVCA). I’ve also contributed as a speaker and advisor to municipal bodies, construction associations, and professional groups, and was part of the sub-committee that advised the Attorney General of Ontario in developing the Construction Act, enacted in 2018.

Outside of work, I’m passionate about travel, cooking, and fitness, and I’m an unapologetic sports fanatic. I also value community engagement, having served on the YMCA of Three Rivers Board of Directors for more than seven years, and continue to support charities like the Alzheimer Society of Canada and the Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario.
